In August of 2021, Kristie opened Soda City Peace of Mind and shortly thereafter, Sunnyside Academy, a private micro school within Peace of Mind.

Before opening Peace of Mind, Kristie spent 15 years teaching and tutoring in both private and public school settings.  Certified in 2017 as a National Board Certified Exceptional Needs Specialist, she is a Certified Special Educator, Educational Consultant and a Certified Educational Advocate.

Kristie enjoys using multiple intervention methods and strategies to improve reading, written expression, executive functioning, behavior, emotional and academic performance.  She is passionate about teaching children to self advocate, helping students to understand the way they learn as unique individuals and applying these skills and strategies into their toolbox to help access education.

Outside of Peace of Mind, Kristie lives with her husband of 23 years, Ben. Her daughter, Sofie, is a sophomore at the University of South Carolina and her son, Jake is a sophomore at Heathwood Hall.  They have two dogs that generally come with Kristie to Peace of Mind each day, Annie and Charlie.

Growing the Peace of Mind community alongside exceptional educators, friends and colleagues, is a gift that fills her heart.  She is forever grateful for the larger Columbia community for supporting this dream and allowing Peace of Mind to develop into the program that it is today: a safe and inclusive community where students are able to be inspired and supported, where parents can discover educational advocates and reliable and elite support services and local schools can collaborate with knowledgeable, authentic and true educational partners.
